The Contribution of Democracy and Corruption to Increasing Innovation: A Case Study in Asean Countries

Abstract

This research uses Schumpeterian theory and the National Innovation system as a theoretical framework. Both theories are able to explain the importance of collaboration between stakeholders such as the government, entrepreneurs, and other parties to create an ecosystem that supports efforts to generate innovation. ASEAN member countries are the object of research representing developing countries, although Singapore, which is a developed country, is still included as data. The observation period in this study covers 2011-2024, therefore the data is in the form of panel data. The measurement technique in this study is multiple regression by applying a thirst test to determine the most appropriate model as the basis for conclusions. The results of the study based on the random effect model show that partially, democracy and corruption do not have a significant effect. The data is supported by a democracy coefficient value of -0.3022 (p = 0.525) and corruption of -0.0680 (p = 0.655).
